SARAJEVO: THE FILM FESTIVAL IN TAKING PLACE IN THESE DAYS - di Enrico Lastrico

Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Capital is hosting Sarajevo Film Festival, the most important Balkans’ festival and one of the most important festival in the world. The first edition of Sarajevo Film Festival held in 1995, the city was under the siege yet at that time. With this manifestation the organizers wanted demonstrate that Sarajevo was alive and Sarajevo’s citizens fought. The event was a success and it’s now in its eighteenth edition. «Today Sarajevo Film Festival represents the main meeting place for all regional producers and authors – the manifestation’s inventors say - it’s recognized by film professionals from all over the world as the pinnacle point for networking for all wishing to learn more about the possibilities this region has to offer».
This Festival presents a wide programme selection of both competitive and non-competitive films and its competition program is accredited by International Federation of Film Producers Associations as a Competitive Specialized Festival. A lot of celebrities have attended in the Festival during these years, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Daniel Craig, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Steve Buscemi, Paul David Hewson, Nick Cave, Artis Leon Ivey Jr., Stephen Frears, Michael Moore, Gérard Depardieu, Darren Aronofsky, Sophie Okonedo, Gillian Anderson, Kevin Spacey and many more. Two important events take place within the festival: CineLink and Sarajevo Talent Campus. CineLink is a year-long project development programme resulting in an annual co-production market during the festival dates. CineLink Market presents approximately 10 finest regional projects for feature-length fiction films. CineLink offers festival guests a special opportunity to meet with the assembled regional industry, with emphasis on young filmmakers, producers and directors presenting their latest projects, productions and works in progress, with highlights of the regional production presented to international distributors, TV-buyers and festival programmers, making CineLink the most important international market place for new features from Southeast Europe. Sarajevo Talent Campus, event organized since 2007 in cooperation with Berlin International Film Festival and Berlinale Talent Campus, is an educational and networking platform for emerging film talents from South-Eastern European region.
